Title:
Why humans often reason poorly—and what to do about it: A scientific
response to systematic human errors
Abstract:
Humans systematically make reasoning mistakes owing to evolutionary
design. These errors lead to sub-optimal decisions with often serious
consequences. Some institutions—national governments, international
organizations such as the OECD, and supranational bodies such as the
EU—are concerned and call for large-scale enhancement of
critical-thinking skills. Others—politicians, marketers, and
propagandists—exploit these vulnerabilities. Science can help reduce
reasoning errors: research shows that some mistakes can be mitigated
through targeted training, whereas others are unlikely to be avoided
without external decision-support systems. This short talk will offer a
brief overview of the field and its practical implications.
Serdecznie zapraszamy!
