CISIM 2024: Researchers from around the world discussed security measures using biometrics at Bialystok University of Technology
03-10-2024
The discussions covered a variety of aspects regarding the use of biometrics as a security assurance method. We commonly use it in daily life, for instance, to unlock our phones or computers using fingerprints. This technology is also crucial for securing institutions.
– Biometrics heavily relies on artificial intelligence technology, – explained professor Khalid Saeed, chair of the CISIM conference. – Human recognition based on characteristics such as face, retina, tongue, DNA, and EEG is linked to ensuring the security of institutions, room data, laboratories, and computer data, thus applying to areas that require protection, sometimes based on multiple systems.
The conference at Bialystok University of Technology featured researchers from 20 countries, including Poland, Germany, India, Japan, Italy, South Korea, Colombia, and Canada.
– This is the twenty-third edition of the conference, which has been immensely popular since its beginnings, – emphasised Assoc. Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, DSc, PhD, Eng, Rector of Bialystok University of Technology. – Among the participants and speakers are world experts in issues related to the application of industrial systems. This is a very interesting topic, as not everyone realises how widely we utilise biometrics in everyday security. Conference participants discuss a wide range of practical applications of various IT systems.
The keynote speakers included:
- Witold Pedrycz – a distinguished expert in artificial intelligence, featured among the top 1,000 scientists in the world according to the World’s TOP 2% Scientists 2020 list by Stanford University, and affiliated with the Canadian Chair of Research in Computational Intelligence at the University of Alberta.
- Kenneth W. Regan from the Department of Computer Science at the University at Buffalo, an American professor, chess player, statistician, and computer scientist, who is a global expert in counteracting fraud in chess.
- Nobuyuki Nishiuchi from Tokyo Metropolitan University (Japan), a world authority in human biometrics research and human-computer interaction.
The main organiser of the CISIM conference is the Biometrics Team at the Faculty of Computer Science at Bialystok University of Technology, led by professor Khalid Saeed.
The International Conference on Computer Information Systems and Industrial Management Applications is listed in the database of scientific journals and reviewed materials from international conferences by the Ministry of National Education.
